Glossybox vs. Birchbox – February Review

Glossybox vs. Birchbox – February Review

Towards the end of last year I thought I’d try out a beauty box subscription, since I love trying out new products and being introduced to new brands. Seeing so many beauty bloggers posting regularly about Glossybox and Birchbox I thought I’d give these a go and decide which one to regularly subscribe too. What I have found is that it’s VERY hard to choose a favourite, and my opinion seems to change month by month. This sparked the idea for a monthly review of each box, to help you understand what each box offers and how they differ. This post is in no way a sponsorship or ad, just my honest opinions. If you’d like to see more posts like this, please comment in the box below… happy reading!

Glossybox

What is Glossybox? Glossybox subscription plans start from £8.50 per month (+P&P), and boxes contain 5 products across makeup, skincare and haircare, including deluxe samples and full size products. Glossybox also gives you the chance to complete surveys every month to earn GlossyCredits to spend on LookFantastic – they add up pretty quickly!

February’s box contained the following…

With Valentines Day in February, the box was ‘love’ themed, and it was beautiful. The actual box itself was super cute, and definitely one that I will use as storage! (I tend to keep the boxes to use when I need extra space for products). This box had 5 items, plus two perfume samples – which was a lovely surprise!

By far my favourite item from this box was the Huda Beauty Lip Contour, in a brown/nude shade. This was such a treat, and definitely makes the box good value for money as this product retails at £16! In a previous box was a Huda Beauty liquid lip, so these go perfectly together (great planning!).

The box also contained a Luxie 560 Medium Fan Brush, which is again great for value for money – and definitely something I’ll use. The Vitamasques Multivitamin Sheet Mask was a lovely treat, as I love to try new sheet masks (one of my favourite types of beauty product), and the Nails Inc Status Ready Nail Polish is a lovely colour so I will definitely get use out of this.

The only product I am not too excited about is the Regenerate Enamel Science Advanced Toothpaste, since I have a regular whitening toothpaste that I absolutely love – so this doesn’t entice me too much, but this is personal preference. I know this product has been in previous boxes too, so may not be appealing if you have already received the sample before.

Overall I was pretty happy with this box! The box has a good variety of products, and I would use pretty much everything which is great. It feels really good value for money.

Birchbox

What is Birchbox? Each Birchbox is £10 per box (+P&P), containing 5 beauty products tailored to your skin, hair and style. When subscribed, you are asked to complete your beauty profile, to help Birchbox to know what types of products and shades to put in your box, which is a really nice touch!

February’s box contained the following…

The box contained 5 items, across a range of categories. My favourite product by far was the Coco & Eve Like a Virgin Hair Masque. I have been wanting to try this for SO LONG, having seen it promoted all over instagram and other social media channels. I used it on the ends of my hair, and it left my hair feeling smooth, soft and smelling great. I will definitely consider purchasing the full size product!

I also loved the Luxie 205 Tapered Blending Brush, which I have since been using daily. Its super soft and really easy to use! The John Masters Organics Geranium & Grapefruit Body Milk is also great. It smells dreamy, and absorbs into the skin really quickly and left my skin feeling really smooth after use.

However I was a little disappointed with the remaining two products. The LOC Liquid Shimmer Shadow was the highly promoted product for this box, and I received the shade Eclipse. The colour is lovely, but I am really not a fan of liquid shadows so will probably not get much use out of this. But this does just come down to personal preference again! Lastly, the Anatomicals No One Gets Flirty With The Dirty body wash initially filled me with joy, as the sample was large and I thought I’d get great use out of it. However, I struggle to be that excited by body wash. I think there are far more exciting products to put in a Birchbox than a low value body wash. I remained open, but the product itself is a strange smell and colour, and definitely isn’t anything to jump about. Its just a body wash, and nothing more.

Well… The Favourite?

The Glossybox definitely won for me this month. In my opinion, it was far better value for money. The Birchbox felt quite empty in comparison, and didn’t feel like much thought had been put into it which is dissappointing. The Glossybox products were definitely more exciting, and felt far more premium than those in the Birchbox this month.
